Tommy Lasorda History
Thomas Charles Lasorda (born September 22, 1927 in Norristown, Pennsylvania) is a former Major League baseball pitcher and manager. In 1999 he marked his 50th year in one capacity or another with the Brooklyn and Los Angeles Dodgers organization, the longest tenure anyone has had with the team.
Tommy Lasorda began his professional playing career with the Montréal Royals of the International League in 1950. He was a star pitcher for a total of nine seasons and is the winningest pitcher in the history of the team. Tommy Lasorda was inducted into the Canadian Hall Of Fame in March, 2006.
Lasorda broke into the major leagues in 1954 as a left-handed pitcher with the Brooklyn Dodgers. Lasorda became the Los Angeles manager September 29, 1976 upon Walter Alston's retirement. He led the team to consecutive National League championships in 1977 and 1978. Over 20 years at the helm of the Dodgers, he also led the team to two World Series championships (1981 and 1988). Tommy Lasorda was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame on August 3rd, 1997.
Tommy Lasorda came out of retirement to manage the 2000 USA baseball team to a gold medal in the Summer Olympics in Sydney, beating the highly favored and two time defending gold medal team from Cuba.
Tommy Lasorda has once again put together a winning line-up and team with his selection of Italian wines. The Lasorda wines have been carefully selected by Casa Torelli Imports from leading wine producing regions of Italy. Of the first eight varietals to grace American tabletops, Lasorda is so very proud of the Trebbiano and Montelpuciano D'Abruzzo wines. These varietals hail from the homeland of his father, Sabatino Lasorda. The Lasorda wines have also received medals at the Los Angeles International wine competition, receiving a Gold Medal with his Chianti Classico DOCG and a Bronze Medal for his Chardonnay di Sicilia DOC.
Tommy Lasorda looks forward to sharing his Lasorda branded Italian wines with his family and friends throughout the world; these will be some of the best Italian wines you will ever experience. Sure to be
a hit, actually, "A HOMERUN".
